Travel Insurance Is Your Friend

Picture
Clients will often ask me if they really need to consider purchasing travel protection when we are planning their vacations. I can never urge them enough the vast amount of importance insurance holds while traveling. I have had clients travel without it who have ended up ill in another state that have racked up large medical bills to clients traveling out of the country where if you do not take care of the medical bill in full you are not allowed to leave the country.

Some policies cover things you may not even think of such as little Johnnie dropping your expensive camera in the fountain outside of your hotel to lost luggage to missing your flight. Most recently clients of mine were heading to Jamaica this weekend which is clear in the path of a dangerous hurricane. My clients originally had to cancel this trip once due to emergency surgery. They DID NOT buy the travel protection at my urging. They lost about $850.00 last March since they were a few weeks prior to travel. Had it been closer to the travel date they would have lost 50% or more. The trip was rescheduled for October 5, 2016, to Jamaica this time luckily they purchased the insurance.

I have been working with them all week to reschedule Jamaica again, as they were taking the weather day by day. I spent a few hours on the phone with the clients as well as the supplier we booked through. I called the supplier directly to go over their travel insurance protection plan so I had a clear understanding of what they would possibly lose from their payment. The only thing they did not refund my client was the cost of the travel insurance which was about $159.00. I have re-booked them for a 5-star resort in Mexico in a few weeks instead, as Jamaica is clear in the path of this category 4 hurricane. The supplier gave them the new travel protection plan for half of the price since I had canceled and re-booked on the same day! My clients are finally at ease with their travel plans too.

We all need to understand just how important travel protection is while making our plans.  $159.00 up front for travel protection is a worthwhile investment as my clients could have lost 75% of their total trip cost. No one ever wants to think of what could possibly happen while planning their vacations which are supposed to be magical,  however being prepared will save you money as well as a lot of worrying and stress in the long run, even magic has it's limits.
